Course Descriptions

8-hour Infection Control

The 8-hour Infection Control course meets all requirements of the Dental Board of California to achieve the certification. It is mandatory for all dental personnel who work in any dental practice's back office, performing sterilization, setting up rooms, and assisting. The 8-hour infection control course is a prerequisite for taking the radiation course.

The program outline for the 8-Hour Infection Control Certification Course is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of infection control. It includes 4 hours of didactic (lecture) via home study, covering theoretical aspects, and 4 hours of pre-clinical and clinical instruction at our office location in Rocklin, offering hands-on experience. Once the course has been completed and all competencies met, participants will receive a certificate in the 8-Hour Infection Control Course, validating their comprehensive knowledge and skills in infection control.

2CE California Dental Practice Act/Ethics in Dentistry

We are a mandatory approved provider by the California Dental Board for the 2CE California Dental Practice Act/Ethics in Dentistry course. This course meets all requirements to obtain the mandatory units required by the Dental Board. The course's material is self-study. Once all competencies have been submitted and met, a certificate of completion will be emailed to you.

The course outline for the California Dental Practice Act (DPA) describes these bodies of laws governing all dental professionals. The Act is intended to serve as a legal guideline for the public and dental professionals regarding all aspects of dentistry. All new dental assistants and licensed dental personnel must receive DPA instruction before each renewal period. The course includes information on the Dental Board, governing bodies, the scope of dental practice for auxiliaries, license renewal, ethics related to dental practice and the law, mandatory reporting for abuse, laws governing prescription medication, the California Laws and Regulations for the Dental Board Statutes and regulations

Dental Practice Act Business & Professional Code beginning at Section 1600 and existing regulations: The Dental Board's regulations are under Title 16.

Radiation Safety (X-Ray)

We are a California Dental Board-approved provider for the Dental X-Ray  Course. This course meets all requirements for obtaining a dental X-ray. It is suitable for any member of the dental community, as it benefits dental assistants, sterilization techs, front office staff, and out-of-state dental assistants looking to acquire their California RDA license.

PREREQUISITE

All dental personnel are required to take a Basic Life Support (BLS) class   (no online classes per DBC) before class and submit it before course content is sent out. CPR/BLS by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association https://procprclasses.com/certification-classes/aha-bls-healthcare-cpr/

The didactic portion includes anatomical landmarks related to dental radiology, radiology basics, infection control, radiology equipment, film mounting and interpretation basics, and technique basics. A written exam will be given after the didactic portion. The pre-clinical portion includes infection control, exposure to bitewing, periapical, bisecting, paralleling technique, processing films, and digital imaging. At California Dental Educators, we use the handheld NOMAD for exposure to X-rays. For clinical practice, you will expose two sets of 4 bitewings and three sets of 18 full-mouth series on a practice manikin.

CLINICAL PATIENTS

During the clinical patient portion, you will bring in four patients on a Saturday afternoon and Sunday of the course. Your patient criteria must meet requirements of no full mouth series, panoramic, or cephalometric x-rays in the past year. All patients must have a written permission form and a health history signed off on our forms from their licensed dentist.

All dental personnel are required to pass a board-approved radiation safety course before X-rays are exposed to patients (BPC § 1656).
